May 28, 2015 with Seamstresses from The Empowerment Plan
When we were researching needs of shelter residents in Metro Detroit, we were introduced to The Empowerment Plan, an amazing organization founded by Veronika Scott. The organization hires women from local shelters, teaches them how to sew, and manufactures coats that turn into sleeping bags for the homeless community. "We believe in giving second chances to those who want it, and providing warmth to those who need it." The Empowement Plan has helped their seamstresses gain access to independent housing and vehicles -- two critical components to the rebuilding process.
To thank and treat the seamstresses we met and interviewed, Project Beautiful - Inside and Out invited five seamstresses to dinner and the Drake Concert at The Palace of Auburn Hills on May 28th. What a fun night for sure!
